It
seems Dorinda Tolson was destined to have a career in some phase
of visual or decorative arts.
As one of eight children, she grew up in Baltimore,
Maryland in a family environment where artistic ability was
appreciated and encouraged.
It was a family legacy.
Her Grandmother was a self taught artist and a painter.
An uncle was an art teacher.
Two brothers majored in art.
One of them , is in fact , an artist and partner in her
company.
Dorinda studied interior design at Catonsville Community
College.
However, her interest was more for fashion.
This interest, she says, can be attributed to two fashion
conscious aunts; one a seamstress, the other, a hat-maker.
Her
company was started in 1999.
She and her brother have pooled their resources, love,
talents, ideas and beliefs to push their unique concept of
redesigning shoes and accessories to perfectly match outfits.
The company has grown tremendously as well as the
concept.
Dorinda
has already gained national attention for her creativity and
originality. You may find women of style and distinction from
Washington D.C. to Los Angeles, California wearing her colorful
designs.
Her talents have been in demand, across the country, for
such events as fashion shows, conventions, sorority affairs,
etc.
She has been featured in numerous publications.
Dorinda,
who currently lives in Randallstown, Maryland, and works
in the Express Mail Department of the U.S. Postal Service
is about more than fashion designs, however,
she
is also known for her designs in household furnishings,
such as bed linens, ceramics, wall paintings, etchings and other
accessories.
It is interior design that she, also, looks to focus and
expand on in the future.
Even
though it has not always been easy, Dorinda has this to say
about her success, “I have no words for these achievements,
except that it is a great joy to recognize, appreciate and act
on the gifts of art that God has given me.”
